Former Potsdam court clerk to be indicted by grand jury

PIERREPONT — A former Potsdam Town Court clerk accused of embezzling more than $100,000 will be brought before a St. Lawrence County grand jury.

Mary Jo Guyette, 43, of 1221 County Route 35, Canton, was charged with grand larceny and falsifying business records after an investigation by state police and the state comptroller’s office allegedly revealed that since June 2009 she had been altering court financial documents to hide the theft of $117,120.

She initially was suspended with pay when the discrepancies were found, but later was fired in September. Ms. Guyette pleaded not guilty to the charges in Pierrepont Town Court Feb. 13 and was scheduled to reappear in the court Monday.

Pierrepont Town Justice Robert G. Camp said he ordered the case up to County Court Monday afternoon. Ms. Guyette will be arraigned before St. Lawrence County Judge Jerome J. Richards after a grand jury indictment.
