As the final, I hope, snow showers of the season blow about outside, I want to thank my neighbors who pushed snow, blew snow or threw snow to keep the fire hydrant clear on our block. I also want to thank the city Department of Public Works crews who cleared snow from the corner, giving us a place to put the additional snow that fell throughout the winter.
On our block, we keep our hydrant cleared in a very informal manner. If you get there first, you handle it.
We have a motto, The home I save might be my own! We protect our neighbors lives, their pets lives, their homes and their possessions.
When firemen arrive at a structural fire, time is of the essence, and valuable time is lost if they must clear the hydrant. Again, thanks to all who made our lives safer.
