Olympic legend Carl Lewis is in Watertown today to raise awareness for organ and tissue donation.
Lewis – who won nine Olympic gold medals and one silver medal during his illustrious 18-year career in track and field– will discuss the issue with the public at 7:30 tonight at the Sturtz Auditorium in Jefferson Community College.
Weve been to large towns, small towns, stadiums and events everywhere, Lewis said. And I think its so important because you really dont know who youre going to touch, anywhere, thats going to make a difference in so many peoples lives.
Im from a small town in New Jersey, and who would have known that I could talk to the world? So its important to go everywhere, he added.
Lewis, making his first trip to the area, said he was inspired visiting the military base at Fort Drum on Tuesday morning.
Just to see the energy thats here, its tremendous, Lewis said.
