Dorothy C. Brown, 92, Maxon Lane, Adams, and widow of Lewis L. Brown, passed away Monday, April 21st at the home of her daughter with whom she had lived, Karen Nevills, Ridgeview Rd., Watertown.
The memorial service for Dorothy will be 3 pm Thursday, April 24th, at the Adams United Methodist Church, 36 E. Church St., Adams, with Rev. Mona Fargo, pastor, officiating. Arrangements are with the Reed & Benoit / Carpenter-Stoodley Funeral Homes.
Born in Allendale, NY August 11, 1921, a daughter of Ella C. Pitkin Corey and Adelbert Corey.
Dorothy attended Allendale School, later graduating from Adams High School in 1939 as Salutatorian.
Dorothy was elected in to the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences Society, elected to Pi Lambda Theta and The National Education Society. Mrs. Brown received her B.A. degree, Cum Laude, from Syracuse University in 1943, and moved on to do graduate work at the University of Tennessee. Mrs. Brown also received her Masters of Science Degree from Syracuse University in 1951. She taught home economics at Hannibal, NY for 2 1/2 years and then at Adams Center and South Jefferson Schools for over 30 years, retiring in 1980.
She married Lewis L. Brown on April 21, 1951 at Adams United Methodist Church with Rev. Butler of Adams and Rev. Ellsworth Reaman of Syracuse officiating. The couple lived all their married life in the Adams area. Dorothy & Lewie owned and operated G&B Hardware and later the Decorator Store in Adams. Mr. Brown passed away November 12, 2006.
Mrs. Brown was the past President of the Adams Alumni Association. Past President Jefferson Lewis County Teachers Association. Past President Adams Center Teachers Association. Member of the New York Teachers Association. Member of the Adams United Methodist Church. Former member of Faith Circle and The Merry Neighbors.
Surviving are her daughter, Karen C. Nevills, four grandchildren & their spouses, Kevin & Kristina Richardson, Karla & Junior Stefanini, Kurt Richardson & Amber Mills and Ashly & Joe Slate. Two Great-Grandchildren, Aston Stefanini & Elliana Slate. A stepsister, Arlene Moore, several nieces & nephews, and many more loving family members & dear friends.
