Potsdam, Massena girls lax teams net NAC home wins

Potsdam Central improved to 5-0 while Massena Central won its belated NAC debut in varsity girls lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Potsdam 18, Salmon River 4: In Potsdam, the host Lady Sandstoners ran out to a 12-3 halftime lead en route to downing the Lady Shamrocks (0-2).

Anette Rishe and Kalie Grant tallied six goals and an assist each to lead the way offensively for Potsdam.

Kiona Loran (1 assist) and Hannah Drechsel chipped in two goals apiece while Matisyn Beamer and Abby Gruneisen rounded out the Lady Sandstoner scoresheet with a goal each.

Jaden Mitchell and Kyra Thompson-Douglas fashioned two goals apiece to account for the Salmon River offense.

Katelyn Bloom turned aside five of the shots she faced backstopping the win while Kearin Adams posted four saves for the Lady Shamrocks.

Potsdam returns to action on Friday with a non-league game in Lake Placid against Northwood Prep while Salmon River is slated to play at Canton Central.

Massena 15, Heuvelton 7: At Mike Nicholas Field, the host Lady Raiders rattled off the first six goals and led 14-2 with 15 minutes left in regulation before the Lady Bulldogs (1-4, 1-3) generated five straight goals late in the second half.

Eighth-grader Jacelyn Lazore anchored a balanced Massena offense with three goals and an assist.

Courtney Manley (1 assist), Mirabella Lazore and Devin Kelly added two goals apiece while Shannon Casey (2 assists), Trysten Burns, Kyrsten Stone, Makaul Vandermast, Katie MacCuaig and Abby LaClair each netted singletons as the Lady Raiders showed a strong recovery from a season-opening 14-2 non-league loss to South Jefferson two Saturdays ago.

“We had a tough game against South Jeff. It was our first time outside and it was horrible conditions. It was nice to see us get the win today,” noted fourth-year coach Jeffrey Slack.

Olivia St. Pierre paced the Lady Bulldogs with three goals. Jackie Sovie notched a pair of goals while Maddie St. Pierre and Alex Steele struck for the others.

Junior Felicity Love worked the Massena crease for six saves while Hannah Thompson handled five shots in the losing cause.

The Lady Raiders will be right back in action this evening when they play host to OFA starting at 7 p.m.

OFA dropped a 13-3 non-league decision at home to Indian River in another Wednesday matchup.
