MASSENA - Massena Memorial Hospital’s Executive Search Committee will be interviewing three firms on Friday to help them with the search for a new chief executive officer.

Charles F. Fahd II announced recently that he planned to retire when he contract expires at the end of 2014.

“We’ve narrowed it down to three professional firms we’ve invited to give presentations to us this Friday,” Susan Bellor, chair of the Executive Search Committee, said.

Following interviews with those firms, she said they’ll decide which one they want to hire to help with the search.

Board of managers member Paul Morrow wondered if the Executive Search Committee had been given any guidelines by administrators in areas such as the pay rate for the new chief executive officer. But Mr. Fahd said the committee was doing well on its own.

“The search committee has done an excellent job gathering all the information. They’ve got a series of questions set up that they’ll ask. They’re right on top of everything,” he said.

Mrs. Bellor said the firm they decide to work with will let the know what they can expect to pay the new hospital chief.

“They will present that at the very beginning,” she said.

Board of managers member David M. MacLennan noted that Mrs. Bellor had requested board members turn in any questions they wanted asked of the firms. Board members would also have time for face-to-face meetings, according to Mrs. Bellor.

“Once we get the process going, everybody will have their time to come in and talk with them. Everybody needs to make time to come up and see and share what you want,” she said.

Mr. Fahd officially announced his retirement during the March meeting of the hospital’s board of managers. His retirement is effective Dec. 31. His contract was renewed in 2012 and runs through the end of 2014.

Mr. Fahd, who has more than 40 years of health care management experience, started his health care career as a cytologist with the state Department of Health in 1970 has been the chief executive officer of Massena Memorial Hospital since 1997.

He previously served as chief executive officer of Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft, Maine. Prior to that, he served as vice president of professional and support services at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta, as well as various administrative and management positions at Nathan Littauer Hospital beginning in 1973.
