Excellus BlueCross BlueShield announced Wednesday that more than 10,500 state residents and companies, including some in Northern New York, have forgotten about more than $1.45 million in checks issued by Excellus Health Plan.
According to an Excellus news release, those checks were issued to members and providers in 2010, but were not cashed. Those funds will be turned over, as required by law, to the state comptroller if they are not claimed by the end of August. The company said checks often are unclaimed because members may have moved and didnt leave a forwarding address, a member died or a member forgot to cash the check.
A list of local residents affected by the issue is listed as a legal notice in todays Times, and will appear later this week in other daily or weekly publications. A complete list of names is available online at www.excellusbcbs.com/ forgottenfunds.
