Ogdensburg woman allegedly crashes car twice in one day while using cellphone

A city woman was ticketed after two car crashes in one day.

State police on Monday charged Lisa A. Cardinal, 45, of 302 Lake St., with second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

Troopers said that at 10:48 a.m. they responded to a vehicle in a ditch on Route 68 in the town of Oswegatchie, near Ashley’s Home Center. A witness told state police that Ms. Cardinal had her vehicle towed out of the ditch and left the scene, heading south on Route 68.

She later was located on Route 68 near Irish Settlement Road, where her vehicle had again gone off the road and rolled multiple times. Troopers said she told them she was using her cellphone when her car left the road. Police also said her drivers license had been suspended at least three times. She was taken to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center for treatment of back pain.

Ms. Cardinal also was cited with driving across hazard markings, speed not reasonable and using a cellphone while driving.

Additional charges are pending results of a blood test that was administered at the hospital. Ms. Cardinal was issued tickets for Oswegatchie Town Court.
