Teen seriously injured in workplace accident at Violi’s

MASSENA - A Massena teen was flown to Massachusetts General Hospital following a workplace accident that severed his arm at Violi’s Restaurant Thursday evening.

Village Police Chief Timmy J. Currier said his department responded to the 209 Center St. restaurant at 8:36 p.m., but is not investigating.

Brett M. Bouchard, 17, severed his right arm at the elbow when cleaning the restaurant’s pasta making machine, manager Mia Violi said.

A undergoing surgery on Friday, he was listed in critical condition as of 7:45 p.m., according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Ross Violi, who owns the restaurant with his brother, Dominic, said this is the first accident in the restaurant’s long history.

“We’re all still in shock,” Ross Violi said outside the restaurant Friday morning. “One of our employees severed his arm last night. We hope it turns out the best for him. That’s about all I can say right now.”
