WATERTOWNJefferson County sheriffs deputies arrested Jeffrey A. Smith, 23, of 436 S. Mechanic St., Carthage, on charges of driving while intoxicated and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation following a traffic stop on Virginia Smith Drive in the town of LeRay.
Deputies stopped Mr. Smith at 4:23 a.m. Monday on reports of an inoperable plate lamp. At that time, it was discovered his temporary state vehicle inspection had expired in October.
According to sheriffs documents, Mr. Smiths license had four suspensions from four different dates, the plates on the 2007 Chevrolet he was driving did not belong to that vehicle and the vehicle was unregistered.
After noticing an odor of alcohol, deputies ordered Mr. Smith to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed, they said.
His blood alcohol content was 0.14 percent, deputies said. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or higher constitutes proof of intoxication.
He was charged with the aforementioned charges, and was cited with inadequate plate lamps, uninspected motor vehicle, unregistered motor vehicle, driving without insurance and improper plates.
He was arraigned in LeRay Town Court and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $500 cash bail.
