Speeding stop reveals open warrants for Fort Drum soldier

A Fort Drum soldier will face multiple outstanding warrants after being stopped by Jefferson County sheriff’s deputies for allegedly speeding.

Deputies said they stopped Zackery K. Valente, 20, of Fort Drum, at 7 a.m. Saturday after he was found traveling 81 miles per hour in a 65 mph zone on Interstate 781, and driving with a suspended registration.

During the stop, it was determined he had an open warrant from Watertown police citing fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and an open warrant in the city of Oswego charging driving while intoxicated.

After he was turned over to Watertown city police, Oswego city police told the county sheriff’s department they also were interested in picking up Mr. Valente on the outstanding warrant.
