Jefferson County has filed suit against a Syracuse scrap metal business claiming the company has not paid a $50,000 invoice.
James L. Lawrence Jr., the countys highway superintendent, filed action Friday at the county clerks office against Roth Steel Corp. According to the complaint, Mr. Lawrence is responsible for direct billing of customers who do business at the countys solid waste facility at 27138 Route 12.
The county claims that in December 2005 it entered into an oral agreement with Roth whereby the county agreed to sell scrap metal to the recycler at $240 per ton. The county contends that in November 2013, Roth accepted 11 loads of scrap metal weighing about 214 tons and was billed $51,447. The bill has not been paid, the county claims.
The county is asking a judge to award it that amount, plus interest.
