POTSDAM - Shoppers can enjoy purchasing local goods at many area farmers markets, starting the second week of May.
The Potsdam Farmers Market, behind the municipal lot near Ives Park, will kick off its outdoor season from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10. There will be live music throughout opening day, including performances by two SUNY Potsdam a cappella groups. The market runs each Saturday until November. Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. are added in July, August and September.
The Canton Farmers Market celebrates its 40th year beginning May 9. The market, at the Village Park on Main Street, meets from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Tuesday and Friday until November.
Dekalb will host a new market, starting from 1 to 6 p.m. May 7 at Carvels Ace Hardware on state Highway 11.
Ogdensburg shoppers can visit the 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday market, located in Library Park, , starting May 10. The Thursday market runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., right outside the Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, starting May 15.
The Martins online farmers market is already open. Place orders via the website Monday through Wednesday for Thursday pickup. Martinsfarmstand.locallygrown.net.
Markets offer in-season produce, cheeses, meats, eggs, herbs, flowers and plants, maple syrup, honey, fresh baked goods, wine, crafts, jewelry, artwork and much more.
Debit and EBT cards are accepted. Simply swipe your card at the managers booth for Farmers Market Tokens and spend them at vendor booths like cash.
