WATERTOWN — In recognition of the 20th annual National Infant Immunization Week, April 26 to May 3, and the anniversary of the federal Vaccines for Children program, Jefferson County Public Health Service is encouraging parents and guardians to get their young children immunized.

According to a public health service news release, only 43.5 percent of children by 35 months of age have completed their recommended immunization series in Jefferson County. Vaccine-preventable diseases, such as measles, whooping cough and the flu, still circulate throughout the nation, putting unvaccinated children at risk, according to the release.
