Morristown rallies for tie; Bulldogs Win


MORRISTOWN - Morristown forced extra innings and another day in the seventh inning against Hammond at home in a 5-5 suspended Northern Athletic Conference West match-up while Harrisville and Heuvelton earned wins.

The Pirates rode a big third inning for a 17-0 win over Lisbon. Heuvelton won its second straight after a loss last week in Harrisville with a 10-0 shutout at home against Hermon-DeKalb.

Hammond 5, Morristown 5 (suspended): Jacob Love reached on an infield single in the seventh and pinch runner Owen Kuca scored on three pass balls with two outs in a heavy rain to tie the score at 5-5 for Morristown.

“It was a great game. It was well-pitched by both teams,” said Hammond Coach Shawn Dack.

The contest will conclude in the final week of the season in Hammond and will be followed by the second division game between the two teams.

Jacob Fox of Morristown and Collin Martin of Hammond each fanned 12 batters in seven innings. Fox allowed a double and a single to Martin and singles to Payton Frisina, Jacob Tate, and Brad Stewart. Love and Ryan Vollmer each singled for Morristown.

Heuvelton 10, Hermon-DeKalb 0: Dylan Liscum pitched five innings striking out eight in his first varsity win. The senior benefited from Jack Palmer’s 3-4 effort with two doubles and five RBIs and his own single and double and two RBIs.

Aidan Scagel produced two hits and drove in a run and pitched two scoreless innings in relief for Heuvelton (3-1, 3-2). Mike Martin supplied three hits while Ben Jacobs (two singles RBI) and Andrew Woodard (single) also contributed.

Dawson Kerr, Pat Perry and Durham each singled for H-D (0-3).

Harrisville 17, Lisbon 0: Bryon Evans smacked two doubles and Josh Brackett connected for three singles as Harrisville (4-0) broke a scoreless in the third inning by scoring eight times off starter Joey Pellerin. Justin Hartle pitched five innings for the win striking out two and allowing four hits. Jared Dreythaler finished with two singles while Tim Fowler, Hartle and Nathan Weaver each singled.

Adam Kelley produced a single and a double for Lisbon (2-2) and Joey Pellerin and Logan Matthews each singled.

E-K 11, C-F 5 (suspended): The Cougars were ahead 11-5 before rain suspended the game after four innings were played. The game will be concluded on May 15.
