CANTON A Brasher Falls man faces more than two decades in prison after admitting to the rape of a child.
Pierre Bond, 56, of 44 Union St., pleaded guilty Tuesday in St. Lawrence County Court to first-degree criminal sex act, a class B felony, in a plea agreement with St. Lawrence County District Attorney Mary E. Rain.
Bond admitted to sodomizing and raping a 9-year-old girl during the summer of 2013.
As part of the plea deal, he faces 21 years in prison with 20 years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced July 14.
State police arrested Bond on Oct. 3 in Stockholm after responding to a sexual abuse complaint. At the time, it was alleged that he engaged in two or more sexual acts with the victim during the previous two years, starting when the child was 7 years old.
Bond originally was charged with first-degree predatory sexual assault against a child, a class A-II felony.
The defendant is a sexual predator who needs to be in a state prison for the protection of our community, Ms. Rain said in a news release. The young lady and her family are pleased that she does not need to testify, and they are happy with the extensive sentence.
Bond also had to consent to the possibility of civil confinement upon release. He will be required to register as a sex offender.
