CANTON Kyle Plimpton threw a one-hitter and struck out nine in game one as the St. Lawrence University softball team went on to sweep SUNY Canton in a nonconference doubleheader Tuesday at SLU. The Saints (18-19 overall) won the opener 8-0 and took the nightcap, 6-0.
Aisha OConnor picked up five hits overall for the Saints. Hannah Sears went 3-for-4 in game one for SLU. Rebecca Allen lined two hits in the first game and Leslie Stratton tallied three in game two. Jessica Rhodes picked up two hits for the Kangaroos (6-19) in game two.
n Khifer OConnor went 3-for-5, including a home run, and drove in three runs to lead SLU to an 8-4 win over host SUNY Canton in a nonconference game.
Zane Fish also tallied three hits for the Saints (15-12). Mark Syron, Chris Fernandez and John Ainsley each produced two hits for SLU. Jesse Barton led the Kangaroos (15-18) with four hits and Braden Giffin added two.
n T. J. Montalbano went 4-for-4 with an RBI as Jefferson Community College beat Schenectady County CC 6-3 in the opener of a Region 3 baseball doubleheader at Schenectady. SCCC (14-13, 9-7) won the second game, 4-3.
Michael Wood also had three hits, including a double, for JCC (12-13, 6-8) in the opener, and Kyle Simmons had three hits and drove in a run. James Matthews went the distance to earn the win. Elliott Martin finished with three hits, including a triple, and drove in a run in the second game for the Cannoneers. Simmons contributed two hits, including a double, and Justin Gaudet supplied two hits.
