Massena ties for third at math contest

MASSENA - Five Massena Central High School students participated in the 70th annual Pi Mu Epsilon Interscholastic Mathematics Contest that was held at St. Lawrence University last month.

They joined thirty-nine other students from 11 schools in pursuit of mathematical achievement.

The competition consisted of both individual student exams as well as a team competition. The Massena team made up of Megan Wells, Audrey Hayes, Shannon Casey, Jackie Tulip, and Jesse Lawrence tied with Heuvelton for third place. Potsdam took top honors and Colton-Pierrepont finished second. Jesse Lawrence scored the highest for Massena and therefore was the team lLeader.

Members of SLU’s Pi Mu Epsilon proctored and helped grade the exams.

The competition results were then shared with the teams after they returned from dinner at SLU’s Dana Dining Center.
