MALONE A Jamaican man who has previously been ordered removed from the United States for being an undocumented alien was arrested again Tuesday near Malone for allegedly being in the country illegally.
Steve Mark Ellis, age not available, was charged by U.S. Border Patrol agents with re-entry of a deported alien on Route 122 in the town of Constable, according to a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court, Plattsburgh.
According to court documents, agents stopped a vehicle traveling on Route 122 for unspecified reasons and conducted an immigration inspection of the vehicles occupants. It is alleged that Mr. Ellis claimed to be a citizen of the United States who had been born in Manhattan. Agents said he was unable to produce any documentation to support his citizenship claim.
According to the complaint, a check of immigration records revealed Mr. Ellis is a citizen of Jamaica who had been ordered removed from the United States in November 1995 in Oakland, Calif.
He was physically removed from the country in December 1995 through Miami, Fla. It is alleged that he never sought permission from the Department of Homeland Security to re-apply for admission into the country.
He was arraigned in federal court and ordered held in U.S. marshals custody pending a detention hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
