Auto parts truck driver runs over curb in downtown Lowville

LOWVILLE — The driver of an auto parts truck was taken to the hospital for observation Wednesday after he ran his truck onto a curb on North State Street near the village’s main intersection.

Village police said Michael T. Kelley, 37, of 4063 County Route 10, Depeyster, was driving north in a Gillee’s Auto Truck and Marine truck about 2 p.m. when he ran over the curb and went onto the sidewalk.

Village police Chief Eric F. Fredenburg said Mr. Kelley apparently passed out, but was conscious when police arrived. He was taken by Lewis County Search and Rescue to Lewis County General Hospital as a precautionary measure, he said.

“It was just fortunate no one was walking by,” he said.

The truck also barely avoided hitting a utility pole and fire hydrant.
