St. Lawrence Local Government Task Force, which represents St. Lawrence County, Massena Waddington, Louisville, Madrid-Waddington, and Massena Central School, has created an online petition asking residents to support their efforts to secure equitable and fair treatment and financial support from NYPA for those affected by the construction of the St. Lawrence-FDR Power Project.

According to the petition, the Task Force is asking that New York Power Authority grant benefits comparable to those received by Niagara Power Project host communities in Western New York based on stipulations in the review.
As stipulated in the review, the state shall in all respects be for the aid, improvement and benefit of commerce and navigation along the St. Lawrence River.
The Task Force it is hoping to use the additional monies to restore the economy of St. Lawrence County, which has suffered significant job losses after the shutdown of General Motors and partial shutdown of Alcoa.
We said we were not we were not going to negotiate in public and we arent, said Task Force Chairman Joseph D. Gray. This [the petition] is purely set up to gauge the publics support in the efforts that we are taking and we want the public to be aware of what we are doing,
Mr. Gray said that he is pleased with the progress of the negotiations so far and that they are still ongoing.
The petition, which currently has 10 signatures, will be sent to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.
