Adams- Betty R. Barney, 87, of Co. Rt 75, Adams and wife of George H. Barney, passed away Wednesday, April 30th at the Hospice Residence at the Ellis Farm on Gotham St., Watertown where she had been a resident for two days.

A private service will be held for family at the Carpenter- Stoodley Funeral Home, Belleville. There are no calling hours. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Town of Henderson. Contributions may be made to Hospice of Jefferson Co., 1398 Gotham St., Watertown, NY 13601.

Betty was born May 9, 1926 in the Town of Ellisburg, a daughter to Leon and Emily “Mae” Reidell. She was a graduate of Adams Center High School, and was an active alumnus of her school all her life. Betty married George H. Barney July 15, 1950.

Betty was a self-employed hairdresser for well over 50 years. She enjoyed gardening, canning, reading and her career. After Mr. Barney’s retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling throughout the United States to include, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, and Death Valley to name a few.

She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, George, Adams; two daughters, Rose Marie McDermott, Watertown and Debra (Mike) Morgan, So. Carolina. Five grandchildren, Jarrod and Marisa McDermott, Joshua, Joel and Lissa Knowles. A great granddaughter, Delilah Knowles. Four sisters, Velma Fotorny, Vestal; Doris Mitchell, Watertown; Ruth Resch, Clayton; Edith Hewitt, Arizona. A brother, Sonny Reidell, Malone. Many nieces and nephews.

Betty was predeceased by four brothers, George, Charlie, Gordon and Paul Reidell.
