High school basketball: Lyme’s Wilson named to all-state first team


Lyme’s Troy Wilson has capped off his spectacular high school basketball career by being named to the Class D all-state first team for the second consecutive season.

Honored by the New York State Sportswriters’ Association, the 5-foot-11 senior guard averaged 30.1 points, 4.1 assists, 6.9 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game. He was the Times All-North Section 3 MVP and finished his five-year varsity career with 1,975 points.

Ogdensburg Free Academy junior Kinnon LaRose, the Section 10 All-North MVP, was chosen for the second all-state team in Class B. He averaged 23 ppg, leading the Blue Devils to the state Final Four.

OFA’s Matt Piercey, a senior, was on the Class B fifth team, while OFA senior Colin Ross made the 12th team.

Also making the second all-state team in Class D was St. Regis Falls senior Brandon Votra. Edwards-Knox senior Kaden Dandrow is on the Class D third team, while Lisbon senior Jimmy Robinson made the Class D fifth team.

Here’s a list of the other local all-state honorees:

Class A: Peyton McLaurin, Carthage, junior, ninth team; Walter Jeter, Carthage, senior, 11th team; Alex Johnson, Malone, Dante Viskovich, Massena, honorable mention.

Class B: Kyle Malik, Lowville, senior, 10th team.

Class C: Jason Martin, South Lewis, Sr., fifth team; Mitch Kenniston, Tupper Lake, Sr., fifth team; Jude Whalen, Immaculate Heart Central, Sr., seventh team; Josh White, St. Lawrence Central, honorable mention.

Class D: Noah Bowes, Chateaugay, Corey LaBounty, St. Regis Falls, Nate Weaver, Harrisville, honorable mention.
