SLC laxmen outlast Saranac Lake; Massena denied


St. Lawrence Central outscored NAC rival Saranac Lake 12-8 while Massena Central dropped a hard-fought 13-9 non-league decision to Section 4 power Vestal in varsity boys lacrosse action on Friday.

SLC 12, Saranac Lake 8: In Saranac Lake, the Larries built a 10-3 halftime lead before holding off a fourth-quarter surge by the Red Storm. Marshall Burninghausen led the winning attack with six goals. Brody Simonds tallied two goals and three assists while Lukas Arquiett generated three goals and one helper. Nick Randall accounted for the other SLC goal and Jacob Sutton logged a solo assist.

Jeff Stevens paced Saranac Lake with five goals and one assist. Carl Schulz, Kevin Duguay and Oliver Holmes connected for the other goals while Chandler Gach earned an assist.

Kody Kocsis turned aside 10 shots working the crease for the win. Ian Bresette came on to stop one shot while Kocsis served out a penalty. Jacob Merrill (7 saves) and Connor Celeste (6 saves) split crease duties for the Red Storm.

Vestal 13, Massena 9: In Vestal, the Raiders held their own against the seventh-ranked Class B team in the state.

Nick Henrie led a balanced Massena offense with three goals and three assists. Sako Rourke and Rhoades Tarbell both chipped in a goal and assist. Ryan Thomas fashioned a goal and three helpers while Brendan Broderick, Hunter Pyke and Evan Kassian connected for the other goals and Kendrick Angus logged a solo assist.

Pat Carlin (2 assists) and Jake Nelson (1 assist) notched three goals apiece for Vestal. Zach Cook struck for another two goals while Nick Nestlerode made eight saves backstopping the win.

Tyler Armstong stood tall working the Massena crease for 17 stops.
