In celebration of May being American Stroke Month, the American Heart Association is asking people to learn two things that could help save their life or someone elses: know if youre at risk of stroke, and know stroke warning signs.
According to the association, stroke is the No. 1 preventable cause of disability and the fourth leading cause of death in the United States. A main risk factor is high blood pressure.
Looking for signs and/or symptoms, the American Heart Association encourages people to use the FAST approach:
n F face drooping.
n A arm weakness.
n S speech difficulty.
n T time to call 911 if signs/ symptoms are seen.
