HERKIMER - The beat went on for the Heuvelton and St. Lawrence Central softball teams as the Lady Bulldogs and Larries won a pair of games and division titles in the Emma Durrant Tournament at the Mudville Softball on Saturday.

Bulldogs Climb To 7-0

In the first game, the Lady Bulldogs won 9-4 against Ticonderoga and took the nightcap 15-2 against Mikeel Staten Island Tech.

Paige McCormick earned Team MVP for the Bulldogs in the tournament. McCormick pitched a seven hitter against Ticonderoga allowing seven hits while striking out four. She also collected four hits and two RBIs in the game one win. In game two she lined three singles and drilled a triple with three RBI.

Alexis Sawyer (2 singles, 2 RBI), Rachel Thornhill (double, 2 RBI), Logan Tallman (2 singles), Hannah Thornhill (single), Shelby Williams (single), Miranda Donnelly (single), Nathalie Barr (single) and Kristie Donnelly (single) all singled for Heuvelton.

Against MSIT, Logan Tallman allowed four hits and struck out four as Heuvelton scored 11 in the third inning. Tallman also scored twice in the win where Rachel Thornhill connected for two singles and a double and two RBI and Alexis Sawyer delivered two hits, three runs scored and five RBIs. Hannah Thornhill (2 singles, 2 RBI, 2 runs scored), Kristi Donnelly (single, RBI), Corine Warren (single), Shelby Williams (single), and Miranda Donnelly (two singles) also contributed.

Larries Improve To 7-0

Lindsay Thayer pitched two wins for the St. Lawrence Central squad earning a one-hit, 13-strikeout 6-0 shutout against Watertown and a 12-strikeout, three hit 2-0 shutout against Elimira Heights.

In the contest against Watertown, she finished 2-3 with a double, two RBI and a run scored. Against Elimira Heights, she produced a single and scored the first run of the game in the sixth inning.

Against Watertown, Haleigh Agans belted a two run homerun in the third that cleared the fence and stroked two singles. Natasha Barnhart (single, run scored), Riley Barton (run scored), Liz Lynch (single, run scored), and Hailee Weeger (run scored, RBI) also contributed to the win.

Maggie Valentine singled in the sixth for Watertown.

Against Elimira Heights, Weegar and Thayer led off the sixth with back to back singles. Agans produced a double which saw Elimira record an out at home as Weeger attempted to score. Chelsea Savage then ripped a two run double down the leftfield line scoring Thayer and Agans. Salvage had two hits in the game while Tera Douglass also connected for a basehit.

Raiders Drop Pair

The Massena Girls Softball team fell to Plattsburgh 7-4 and Saranac Central 3-2 (consolation game) at the Lake Placid Tournament.

Against Plattsburg, Bailey Dillabough produced a double in Massena’s 11-hit effort. She Frady had a homerun for Plattsburg and Jamie Bedard lined a double and pitched the win.

No details were available at presstime for the Saranac Central game.

BOYS LACROSSE

Canton 13, Saranac Lake 4: Erupting to a 9-1 halftime lead, the Bears (8-0, 8-1) were led by Garrett Glasglow with two goals and three assists, Josh Facey with two goals and one assist and Josh Huaitt with two goals. Louden Porter, Peyton VanBibber (one assist), Issac Thrasher (two assists), Cody Moore, Gage Emerson, Dane Ames, and Mark Mahoney (one assist) all scored once.

Nate Gibson (two saves) and Andrew McCormick (one save) shared the goaltending win.

Oliver Holmes scored twice for Saranac Lake. Jeff Stevens chipped in a goal and one assist while Karl Shultz added a goal. Jacob Morrill had nine saves for the Red Storm.

Horsesheads 12, Massena 10: The Raiders took three costly penalties late in the fourth quarter which helped Horseheads overcome a 8-6 third quarter deficit.

Carter McCormick generated three goals and two assists, Ian Cook collected one goal and three assists, Luke Tetreault tallied two goals and two assists, and Jordan Gush produced three goals and one assist to lead Horsesheads. Joe Heft, Cam Skroskzink, and Garrison Kukl each scored once. Chris Bucciarelli had 10 saves for the Blue Raiders.

For Massena, Rhodes Tarbell generated four goals while Nick Henrie, Ross Driscoll, Jordan Robert, Ryan Thomas, Dalton Mullin and Braeden Broderick each scored once. Kendrick Angus, Cole Allen each logged an assist. Tyler Armstrong stopped 16 saves in the setback.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Watertown 18, Massena 4: Olivia Miles generated five goals and three assists as the host Cyclones routed the Red Raiders in a nonleague game.

Jill Girardi collected seven points, including five assists, and Courtney Gebo netted three goals and three assists for Watertown (10-2).

Mimi Lazore scored twice for Massena (5-3).
