OFA’s LaRose, Piercey, Ross all-state


Among the many accolades achieved by OFA’s New York State Class B Final Four basketball team were unprecedented honors won by junior Kinnon LaRose and seniors Matt Piercey and Colin Ross.

The trio was named to the First Team of the All-NAC Central Division all-stars and the First Team of Watertown Daily Times All-North Team Northern Conference selections.

LaRose was named the NAC Central MVP and shared the Joe Jukoski Memorial Award with the NAC East MVP in St. Regis Falls senior Brandon Votraw.

On Thursday the three Blue Devil standouts were honored with berths on the All-New York State Team compiled by the New York State Sportswriters Association.

LaRose, who averaged 23 points per game, made the second team of the Class B selections which were headed by Westhill junior guard Jordan Roland who led the Warriors to the NYSPHSAA and New York State Federation Class B titles.

Piercey (15 ppg) made the fifth team and Ross (14 ppg) earned a 12th team spot.

Votra (14 ppg) made the second team of the Class D selections which featured Edwards-Knox senior Kaden Dandrow (24.8 ppg) on the third team and Lisbon senior Jimmy Robinson (17.6 ppg) on the fifth team.

Other Section 10 players honored are: Dante Viskovich of Massena and Alex Johnson of Malone who received Honorable Mention in Class A, Mitch Keniston of Tupper Lake who made the fifth team in Class C, Josh White of St. Lawrence Central who earned Honorable Mention in Class C and Noah Bowes of Chateaugay, Corey LaBounty of St. Regis Falls and Nate Weaver of Harrisville who earned Honorable Mention in Class D.

Lyme Central Troy Wilson was named to the Class D all-state first team for the second consecutive season.

LaRose Plays Well

In City Rocks Opener

Kinnon LaRose began his first season with Nike-sponsored Albany City Rocks AAU team in the first of five Elite Basketball League Tournaments.

The City Rocks travelled to Sacramento, Ca. and went 2-2 with LaRose starting all four games where the Rockets nipped Team Florida 57-56 and the Playground Elite 54-54 and droppi9ng a 70-56 decision to the Southern Stampede and a 69-62 decision to Team Penny.

While committing only three turnovers while averaging 27 minutes per game, LaRose scored eight points against Team Florida, provided five points and six rebounds against the Southern Stampede, delivered nine points with five rebounds against Team Penny and eight points, five rebounds and three assists against the Playground Elite. The City Rocks will play tournaments over the next three weekends in Dallas, Tex., Hampton, Va. and Minneapolis, Minn. and will play in the Peach Jam in North Augusta, Ga. on July 16-20.
