An early view of the Watertown Daily Times library, aka the morgue, when the paper was located on Arcade Street. Librarians would clip articles from the newspaper and file them by name or subject in manila envelopes, seen on the shelves at right. While clipping was discontinued in 1988 when the newspapers archives went digital, the Times library at its current building at 260 Washington St. contains a vast array of clip files dating back to the 1920s that are used by reporters, historians and people working on genealogy projects. The library is open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. For more information, contact Times librarian Lisa Carr at 661-2445.
