CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - WINTHROP - Massena-based state police charged Michael A. Bell, 24, of 299 County Route 51, Winthrop, with a felony count of third-degree criminal mischief - damage greaer than $250 and two counts of third-degree menacing, second-degre menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm after responding to a complaint at 2:21 p.m. Saturday in the town of Lawrence. The arrest was made at in the town of Lawrence.

Troopers said Bell’s step-brother went to his residence Saturday to retrieve his personal belongings and to confront Bell about things Bell had been saying about him.

Police said a verbal argument soon escalated and the step-brother grabbed a shovel that was on the porch for protection.

Police said Bell then ran inside the house, grabbed his shotgun, went out the back door and fired a round into the air.

The step-brother then put the shovel down and got back into his car to leave the residence, but Bell took the shovel and smashed the back window and taillight of the vehicle, police said.

Bell is being held at St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility with bail set at $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond and is scheduled to appear Wednesday in Stockholm Town Court.

DWI - NORTH LAWRENCE - Massena-based state police charged Kevin A. Hafter, 54, of North Lawrence with driving while intoxicated and ticketed him for failure to keep right at 2:09 a.m. Sunday following a traffic stop on County Route 55 in the town of Lawrence. He reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.09 percent.

HARASSMENT - MOIRA - Malone-based state police charged Stephen M. Bushey, 31, of Moira with second-degree harassment Saturday morning as part of an investigation into a harassment complaint filed with troopers March 23 from the town of Moira. The arrest was made at 57 Grove St. Troopers had previously charged Rockne B. Niles, 31, of Moira on April 23 with second-degree harassment as part of that same investigation.

CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - ST. REGIS FALLS - Malone-based state police charged Paul Guyette, 21, of Winthrop with third-degree criminal mischief Saturday stemming from an investigation into an incident that took place April 20 in the town of Waverly.
