HAMMOND — The academic leaders for the class of 2014 at Hammond Central School are Emily Bush, valedictorian, and Stephanie Morgan, salutatorian.

Miss Bush, daughter of Samuel and Julie Bush, has a grade point average of 98.89 and will graduate with an advanced Regents diploma.

She is a member of National Honor Society, was part of the Hugh O’Brian Youth leadership conference for three years and has been involved in Spanish Club, Science Club, Mock Trial, New York State School Music Association solos and All County Band for several years.

She has played soccer, basketball and softball for four years and received Academic All-Northern honors in all three sports. She has been a Girl Scout since 2003 and a volunteer at Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, Ogdensburg.

She participates in Relay for Life and Gouverneur Health charity walks. She was nominated for the Air Force Math and Science Award, Clarkson Leadership Award, RPI Medal Award and Bausch & Lomb Science Award.

Miss Bush earned 15 college credits from SUNY Canton and 7 credits from North Country Community College, Saranac Lake. She will attend Elmira College and pursue a medical career.

Miss Morgan, daughter of Tammy Howie and Stephen Morgan, has a grade point average of 93.54 and will graduate with an advanced Regents diploma.

She is a member of National Honor Society, is president of the Student Council and participated in Science Club and New York State School Music Association solos for four years.

Miss Morgan played softball for four years and received Academic All-Northern awards. She was nominated for the Wells 21st Century Leadership Award, Sage Colleges Award, St. Lawrence Augsbury Award and Air Force Math and Science Award.

She has earned nine college credits from SUNY Canton and will pursue a career in psychology/counseling.
