BRUSHTON - One big inning wasn’t enough to keep the Massena Central varsity softball team from dropping a 7-5 NAC Central Division decision on the road to Brushton-Moira on Monday.

The Lady Raiders fell behind 4-0 through three innings before taking the lead with a five-run outburst in the top of the fourth. The Lady Panthers countered with solo runs in each of the next three at-bats to come away with the win.

Reaghan Peets (2K, 2BB, 10H) went the distance in taking the loss while Emily O’Connor (7K, 1BB, 7H) pitched the complete-game victory.

Vanessa Kirkey had a two-run single and scored a run in the fourth inning where the Lady Raiders rattled off four straight hits and took advantage of a pair of BMC errors. Kelly Southwich had two hits on the game and scored a run. Bailey Dillabough doubled and scored. Samanntha Villnave rapped an RBI-single and scored a run. Katelyn Malone came around to score the other Massena run. while Peets singled along with Addy Rufa to account for the other two hits

For the Lady Panthers, O’Connor had three hits. Jenna Dufrane doubled, singled and scored a run. Paige DeBeer tripled and came around to score twice while Kenzi Traynor had the game-winning hit in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored a run.

Massena (1-4, 1-2) is slated to play at Salmon River on Wednesday.

In the other NAC Central game played on Monday, Franklin Academy blanked Salmon River 15-0. East Division softball action saw Colton-Pierrepont and Norwood-Norfolk split a twinbill as did Madrid-Waddington and Chateaugay.

FA 15, Salmon River 0: The Franklin Academy girls maintained their unbeaten status with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first inning. That was all the offensive support the Huskies needed to give Prue as she carried her second no-hit bid into the fifth inning, then allowed a single off the bat of SRC’s Jenny DeJung.

“Alexa did another fine job for us today,” said Malone coach Greg Marshall. Prue’s first outting was a no hitter in her varsity debut on Tuesday.

Malone salted the win away with a six-run second, then added five runs in the third, one in the fourth and ended the game with the 15-run rule with a solo run in the home-half of the fifth. The Huskies tagged Melanie Taylor with the loss.

Prue, who struck out 10 SRC batters against one walk, helped her own cause at the plate, going 3—4 with a double while Janelle Heden singled and doubled in three at bats.

N-N 4-7, C-P 2-17: At Swift Field in South Colton, Morgan Doyle produced two hits in each game, including a home run in game two, to lead the Colts (6-1) past Norwood-Norfolk.

Cortney Harvey picked up two hits for the Flyers (6-2, 5-2) in the opening game. Eve Whalen tallied two hits in each game for the Colts. Andrew Aldous and Morgan Burns both lined two hits in game two for the Colts.

Chateaugay 8-6, M-W 5-17: Rachel Young was the winning pitcher and added a triple and single in the opening game as Chateaugay (2-4, 2-3) earned a split with the Yellow Jackets in an East Division game in Madrid.

Autumn Beckstead picked up two hits for the Yellow Jackets (2-4) in game one.
