SARATOGA SPRINGS The Clarkson University baseball team earned a spot in the Liberty League playoffs after shutting out Skidmore, 8-0 and 11-0, in a Liberty League doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
Jarrod Mattingly gave up only four hits in a complete-game effort to win game one, while Eddie Miller and three other pitchers gave up only five hits in the nightcap for the Golden Knights (19-11, 14-7). David Wixted clubbed home runs in both ends of the twin bill for Clarkson.
Skidmore finished the season at (10-25, 3-9).
The Golden Knights are the second seed in the Liberty League tournament that will be hosts by Union College. More information on the tournament will be released today.
n The St. Lawrence University baseball team took advantage of an 8-run fifth inning and wrapped up the season with a 12-6 Liberty League win over Rensselaer Sunday in Canton.
Bryan Palermo drove in three runs, including two on an RBI-single in the fifth for the Saints (19-13, 11-9).
Chris Holomakoff laced a pair of RBI-singles for the Engineers (23-12, 12-9).
Game two was cancelled because of rain.
