OFA, M-W golfers post key home wins


Depth proved to be a common denominator for OFA and Madrid-Waddington in Tuesday’s Northern Conference Division I Golf action at home.

Playing their first match at the St. Lawrence State Park Blue Devils (4-0) survived some shaky moments to underscore Malone (4-1) 221-231 in match of Division I unbeatens and Madrid-Waddington (228) swept Massena (239) and Brushton-Moira (273) at the Twin Brooks Golf and Country Club.


“We had some big numbers today and I don’t know why because we were playing at home. We just had some jitters today and hopefully we’ve got them worked out before we play Brushton-Moira at home on Thursday,” said OFA Coach Joe Lynch.

“But we were able to pull out the win.

Davis Sprague shot a medalist round of 40 for the Huskies but the Devils countered with a 41 from Tristen Moore, a 42 by Rudy Binion and a 43 by Jed McRoberts. Conor Hannan followed with a 47 and Matt Piercey and Ryan Petell each finished at 48.

Cole Depruy and Nathan Hunter shot 46s for Malone and Logan Lamb finished at 48.


Kaden Pickering and Jeff Mott shot 42s and to lead Madrid-Waddington to a sweep and 4-1 start to its first season of Division I Golf.

“We bounced back and played much better than we did at Potsdam yesterday,” said M-W Coach Aaron Jones.

“Our depth carried us today. Austin Delosh is a first-year golfer who wants to learn and keeps getting better.”

Delosh shot a 47 combining with Zeb Zagrobelny’s 46 and a 51 by Alex Hammond to round out the winning total. Wade Lawrence shot a nonscoring 53.

Young shot a 54 to but was edged by Mikayla McCarthy who finished at 52.

B-M’s Devin Delisle earned medalist honors with a 36 which included birdies on the fourth and fifth holes. Hunter Francis shot a 42 for Massena and Brendan Dobbins finished at 46.


RAYMONDVILLE - The Norwood-Norfolk Central golf team gained an NAC Division II tri-meet sweep over Canton (4-1) and Clifton-Fine (5-0) at the Raymondville Country Club on Tuesday.

Freshman Jacob Levison posted the low round of the day at the par 36 lay-out with a 41 in the fourth group. Canton was led by Dan Christy’s 48.
