Burke has hearing Thursday in NY21 ballot issue

WATERTOWN — Stephen W. Burke, a Democrat from Macomb, has another hearing before the state Supreme Court in Albany to determine his eligibility to be listed on the ballot in the race for the 21st Congressional District.

Last week, the state Board of Elections invalidated his petitions for not having enough signatures. Mr. Burke said he collected 1,291 signatures on his petitions, but after 175 were removed, he did not meet the minimum number required.

Mr. Burke, who is represented by Canton-based attorney James L. Monroe, said he has a hearing at 1 p.m. today in front of Justice Kimberly A. O’Connor.

“We hope to prove that I should be on the ballot”, Mr. Burke said. A decision is expected Friday.
