One dead, one serious, after early morning accident

MEXICO—A Parish man was killed and another is in critical condition after their pickup truck struck a utility pole and two trees early Thursday.

State police said Christopher J. Billings, 41, was taken to Oswego Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the truck, 29-year-old Casey C. Billings, was driving south on Route 69 when he failed to negotiate a left curve and went off the west shoulder, police said. The truck went over a ditch and struck two utility pole guard wires before striking two trees. The truck finally came to rest in the yard at 4297 Route 69.

The younger Mr. Billings was taken to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, where he was listed in serious condition at 9 p.m. Thursday.

Police said an initial investigation determined that alcohol consumption may have been a factor.
