Salmon River, Massena laxmen notch convincing NAC wins


The Salmon River Central and Massena Central varsity boys lacrosse teams both generated convincing NAC wins on their home fields Thursday afternoon.

Salmon River 15, Saranac Lake 2: At Fort Covington, the host Shamrocks steadily worked their way to a 9-2 halftime lead before going on to raise their overall record to 9-0 and NAC leading mark to 8-0.

Myles Delormier anchored the Salmon River attack with three goals and two assists. Bryton Burns finished with three goals and one helper while Kason Tarbell tallied a goal and five assists. Blaze White (2 assists), Skkylar Thomas and Trenton Tarbell netted two goals apiece while Skye Sunday and Iothore Lazore each struck for singletons.

Jeff Stevens and Kevin Duguay connected for the Saranac Lake goals.

The duo of Tazz Oakes (3 saves) and Darius Lafrance (1 save) shared crease duties for the Shamrocks while Jacob Merrill stopped four shots for the Red Storm (2-6).

Salmon River is slated to host NAC rival Potsdam today at 4:30 p.m.

Massena 18, OFA 1: At Mike Nicholas Field, the visiting Blue Devils got off to a promising start when Nate Peo opened the scoring just 37 seconds into the game off an assist from Aidan Putman but the Raiders countered with three goals in just over two minutes en route to building a 7-1 lead by the end of the first quarter. They went on to add four goals in each of the next two frames before netting three more in the fourth.

Kendrick Angus broke through for eight goals to lead the way offensively for Massena (7-4). Nick Henrie fashioned a goal and seven assists while Rhoades Tarbell produced three goals and two helpers. Ross Driscoll also scored three goals. Cole Allen chipped in two goals and an assist. Brendan Brockerick finished with a goal and asssit while Sako Rourke and Josh Blair each notched a solo helper.

Troi Benedict turned aside seven shots backstopping the win while Quinton Denner was credited with one save for the Blue Devils.

The Raiders return to action this afternoon on the road against Colton-Pierrepont starting at 4:30 p.m.


In the other NAC varsity boys lacrosse encounter on Thursday, Canton Central turned back St. Lawrence 9-8 at the SUNY Canton turf field.
