Watertown teen arraigned on several charges from alleged Copenhagen incidents


LOWVILLE — A Watertown teenager was arraigned Thursday in Lewis County Court on charges that he possessed a homemade explosive device and threatened a couple of other youths on separate occasions in the village of Copenhagen.

Joshua A. Beaumont, 17, of 1708 Ohio St, pleaded not guilty to charges of first-degree criminal possession of a weapon, second-degree criminal mischief, second-degree menacing, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of second-degree harassment.

His case was adjourned to June 6, with a possible trial date set for Sept. 15.

Mr. Beaumont was accused of, on Sept. 6, throwing an explosive substance at the occupied Groff family residence on Cataract Street. He additionally was charged with, on Oct. 24, causing more than $2,5000 worth of damage by denting a truck and smashing the window with a baseball bat, hitting Martha Baldwin in the jaw while in the presence of a child and attempting to hit her with the baseball bat, and hitting Kathlene Hannah Johnson in the head with his fist, all at another village residence.
