WATERTOWN A Watertown man was referred to Jefferson County Drug Court on Thursday after admitting in County Court that he sold cocaine.
Osuel Romero, 44, pleaded guilty to third-degree criminal sale of a controlled substance. He had been charged in a grand jury indictment handed up in March with selling the drug in October.
If he completes Drug Court, a substance abuse rehabilitation program that is designed to be an alternative to incarceration, his guilty plea will be vacated and he would be allowed to plead guilty to the lower level felony of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. He then would be sentenced to five years probation.
If he is unsuccessful, he faces three years in state prison, followed by an additional two years of supervision upon his release.
