GOUVERNEUR Gouverneur Middle School teacher Nicholas Costa has been accepted to attend the George Washington Teacher Institute, a competitive program that brings educators to Mount Vernon, Va., for study at Washingtons home.
The sessions will focus on Washington in the context of the 18th century and his effect on the modern world, Gouverneur Central School Superintendent Lauren F. French said.
Mr. Costa is a middle school teacher of social studies and of children with special needs. He is a Civil War re-enactor who is organizing a program May 22 at the school in which students will participate.
His acceptance to the program, which runs from July 27 to Aug. 1, includes a travel stipend and residency.
