Massena golfers sweep Potsdam, FA; Salmon River blanks C-F


MASSENA — The Massena Central golf team made the most of its home course advantage on Friday in gaining an NAC Division I sweep over Potsdam and Franklin Academy at the Massena Country Club.

Hunter Francis logged a three-over par 38 on the back nine followed closely by Kendrick Swamp with a 39 as the Raiders posted a team score of 220 in coming away with the wins over Potsdam (263) and FA (226). Also contributing toward the Massena sweep were Brenden Dobbins with a 43, Mark Bender with a 49 and Mak Manchester with a 51 while Jason Hammill had a non-scoring 53 and Ivan Delosh shot a 52 in an exhibition match.

Aidon Clothier had the low round of the meet with a 37 to anchor the Potsdam effort. Also competing for the Sandstoners were Zack McDonald (53), Riley Clark (55), Bailey Fregoe (64), Josh Vandevelde (54) and Ken Eurto (64).

For Malone, Logan Lamb had a 43 followed by Davis Sprague with a 44 while Cole Dupuy and Nathan Hunter each carded a 45 and Adam Dumas a 49.

In the other Division I meets on Friday, OFA remained unbeaten with a 199-271 decision over Brushton-Moira while Madrid-Waddington outshot Gouverneur 229-237.


The Salmon River Central golf team improved to 5-1 with it second NAC Division II win over Clifton-Fine in as many days.

After downing the Eagles 4-1 in a tri-meet at the St. Lawrence University course in Canton, the Shamrocks were able to post a 5-0 sweep in their rematch on the front nine at the Ceder View Country Club led by Tommy Thomas, who outshot Matt Peabody 41-53 in the first pairing. Earning the other Salmon River point in the order they competed were; Austin Cumins (48), Jacob Bero (50), Rasentoka Tarbell (50) and Evan Swamp. Dennis Bero posted non-scoring 62.

Also competing for Clifton-Fine were Eric Sclamczyki (58), Austin Milone (61), Logan Lutz (69) and Chad Kerr (67). Tim Levy shot a non-scoring 83.

The Shamrocks are slated to return to action on Monday when they host a tri-meet against Tupper Lake and Canton.

In other NAC Division II golf meets on Friday, Tupper Lake beat visiting Norwood-Norfolk 5-0 while Canton swept past Heuvelton 4-1 and Edwards-Knox 3.5-1.5. E-K beat Heuvelton 5-0 to gain the split.

Tupper Lake 5, Norwood-Norfolk: At the Tupper Lake Country Club, the host Lumberjacks won all five of their matches to improve to 5-0 atop the Division II standings. Riley Amell anchored the Tupper Lake with with a three-over par 39 on the front nine. Alex Lewis had a 50, Ben Geiger a 48, Tyler Clark a 49 and Josh Pickering a 50.

For the Flyers (4-3), Jacob Levison and Ty Cotter each carded a 54 followed by Brandon Palmer with a 55. Beau Catimon finished with a 66 and Isaac Barkley shot a 64. Austin Ward (55) and Kyle Bond (61) competing in the sixth and seventh matches for N-N.
