WATERTOWN A Syracuse scrap metal business being sued by Jefferson County over an allegedly unpaid $50,000 invoice has filed for bankruptcy.
Roth Steel Corp. filed for Chapter 7 protection May 2 in U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of New York, Syracuse. In a Chapter 7 proceeding a business ceases operations and a trustee sells its assets to pay creditors.
Jefferson County sued the company in state Supreme Court in April claiming that it had hauled about 214 tons of metal from the countys solid waste facility at 27138, but never paid the $51,447 bill. The case remains pending.
