Gearing up for the final week of the regular season, the OFA Girls and Boys and the Heuvelton Girls Lacrosse teams recorded high-scoring wins in Fridays Northern Conference action.
The OFA Girls bested Saranac Lake 18-6, the Heuvelton checked Salmon River 12-1 and the OFA Boys nipped the Red Storm 9-8 in Saranac Lake.
OFA 18 - Saranac Lake 6: OFA Coach Lauren Morley called the victory a breakthrough day for her 2-6 team which show solid improvement in the last two weeks.
After two well-played losses to Potsdam and Canton we really needed a win to build confidence for the fional week of the season. Kiana Zulauf scored her first goal ever and that was very exciting, said Coach Morley.
We played a very good second half and Hunter Shaver was my Player of the Game. We won five draws in a row in the second half and we got our passing game going.
Danielle Guimond provided a focal point in the passing game picking up four assists and Sky Hoover and Mackenzie Bresett (2 assists) led the finishing with four goals apiece. Shaver tallied three goals with one assist.
Courtney Sherwin and Janelle LaRue each scored two goals, Kiana Zulauf netted her first varsity goal, Kelsi Donaldson tallied one goal and Taylor Smith added an assist to back Marissa Fosters six-save goaltending.
Macey Fisher scored four goals for Saranac Lake (0-8).
Heuvelton 12 - Salmon River 1: The trio of Jackie Sovie (4 goals - 2 assists), Olivia St. Pierre (3 goals) and Maddie St. Pierre (2 goals, 1 assist) combined for nine goals as the Bulldogs climbed to 6-4 in the NAC.
We are right in the middle of the pack but heading into the playoffs almost anything can happen based on some of the scores this season, said Heuvelton Coach Becky Kelley.
We have had a very good year.
Kylie Piercey, Corine Sherwood and Sydney Mee all added single goals and Heather Thompson made nine saves for the Bulldogs. Jessica Benedict stopped 11 shots for Salmon River.
OFA 9 - Saranac Lake 8: The Blue Devils rallied in the first and fourth quarters and then held off a last ditch Saranac Lake bid by consuming the final minute with ball control.
It was a good game. Quinton Denner had a good game in goal and their goalie played well, said OFA Coach Matt Morley.
It was a real nice effort by our guys to kill the block after they cut the lead to one goal. Saranac Lake is a solid team.
Dave Purdhommes third goal of the game proved to be the game-winner for the Devils and Taylor Richardson led the scoring with three goals and two assists. Austin-Morley Sloan scored a pair of tallies, Andrew Roddy netted one goal, Nate Peo passed out two assists and Aidan Putman passed out one assist.
SR, MASSENA WIN
Salmon River 14 - Potsdam 1:Skkylar Thomas and Frank David both scored three goals for the Shamrocks (10-0, 9-0). Max Warden scored for Potsdam (2-9). Massena 18 - C-P 2:Five goals from Kendrick Angus led Massena (8-4, 8-2) past the Colts in South Colton. Cole Allen scored three times and Ross Driscoll added two goals for Massena. Nick Henrie, Rhoades Tarbell, Ryan Thomas, Dalton Mullin, Sako Rourke and Kyren Sunday each added single goals. Ethan Knight scored both goals for the Colts (0-11).
