Stefanik receives endorsements from Essex County supervisors

Elise M. Stefanik announced this morning that she has received the endorsements of 14 members of the Essex County Board of Supervisors.

Ms. Stefanik is facing Matthew A. Doheny, Watertown, in the Republican primary for the 21st Congressional District seat now held by retiring Rep. William L. Owens, D-Plattsburgh.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of these members on the Essex County Board of Supervisors,” Ms. Stefanik said in a campaign-issued news release. “As current elected officials in Essex County, I am incredibly humbled in their support of my candidacy.”

Ms. Stefanik is a resident of Willsboro, whose supervisor, Shaun Gilliland, is among the group that endorsed her.

“Elise came knocking on our doors to represent us when there was still a sitting Congressman who had won on three separate occasions. Her commitment to the voters in this district started early and is running stronger than ever,” Newcomb Supervisor George Canon was quoted in the release. “She is determined to help revamp the unjust laws that have been piled on the residents of Essex County and the rest of the district. I have met with her, and I believe she can do this, and do it better than any other candidate can. I am proud to support her.”

The supervisors who endorsed her, in addition to Mr. Gilliland and Mr. Canon, were Charles Harrington, Crown Point; Noel Merrihew, Elizabethtown; Edward Gardner, Essex; William Ferebee, Keene; David Blades, Lewis; Thomas Scozzafava, Moriah; Robert Politi, North Elba; Ronald James Moore, North Hudson; Michael Marnell, Schroon; Charles Whitson, St. Armand; William Grinnell, Ticonderoga; and Randy Preston, Wilmington, an independent.
