Potsdam girls net lax win at Canton; boys fall to OFA

CANTON - The Potsdam Central varsity girls lacrosse team netted a 13-6 NAC win on the road over Canton Central on Monday.

The teams traded early goals before the Lady Sandstoners worked their way to an 8-5 halftime lead.

Kalie Grant broke through for five goals to lead the winning offense. Hannah Drecshel added for goals followed by Anette Rishe with three and Abby Gruneisen with one.

Tess Knight fashioned two goals and an assist in the losing effort. Mimi Husinec, Claire Bartlett, Rachel Huntley and McKaylee Boak connected for the other Canton goals.

Katelyn Bloom made five saves backstopping the win while Meg Howard turned aside five shots for the Lady Bears.

OFA DENIES SRC

In the other NAC girls lacrosse matchup on Monday, OFA beat Salmon River 15-11.

Jaiden Mitchell led the Salmon River attack with four goals. Kiana Thompson and Kyra Thomas-Douglas netted goal apiece. Tsiotenhariio Herne (1 assist), Jillian Benedict, Kiera Pyke, Shawnee Oakes and Chrissy Benedict each struck for solo markers.

Danielle Guimond sparked OFA with five goals and one assist.

Marcella Thomas had eight saves in goal for the Lady Shamrocks (2-8) while Miranda Foster stopped eight shots for OFA (4-8, 3-6).

BOYS LACROSSE

In the lone NAC varsity boys lacrosse game played on Monday, OFA outscored Potsdam 12-8.

Josh Sanchez paced the Sandstoners (5-6) with three goals and two assists. Keenan O’Gorman and Billy Bergan added two goals each. Sam Woods tallied a goal and two assists while Max Warden generated four helpers.

Andrew Roddy led the way offensively for OFA with five goals and two assists.

Chase Palmer made eight saves working the Potsdam crease while Quinton Denner handled two shots backstopping the win.
