Blue Devils Go 7-For-7


OFA’s first Senior Day of the spring sports season saw the OFA Golf team continue a perfect season by sweeping Northern Conference Division I opponents in Massena and Gouverneur.

The Devils protected their two-game lead in Division I heading into what OFA Coach Joe Lynch called a important match.

The Devil golfers stayed perfect on a day when all of the OFA spring teams were in action and posted a perfect 7-for-7 day.


“We have posted some very good scores at home this season but we still have to play some matches on tough courses. On Wednesday, we will play the one of the sides at Malone that we haven’t played before,” Lynch who honored Conor Hannan, Rudy Binion, Jed McRoberts, Mitchel Barber, Ryan Petell, Spencer Mayette and Matt Piercey at his Senior Day presentation.

“I want to congratulate the seniors for a great season. I’ve coached these guys a long time and they have worked hard. Some of these guys spend a lot of time on the golf course.”

Binion shot a medalist 36 in his final home match, Hannan tallied a 38 and Petell shot a second straight 39 from the sixth spot in the lineup. Tristen Moore tallied a 43 and Matt Piercey finished with a non-scoring 50.

Hunter Francis, the reigning Section 10 medalist, shot a 37 for Massena and Mark Manchester carded a 45. Cale Newvine led Gouverneur with a 43.


Sebastian Quintilliani struck out eight batters in five innings picking up the victory as OFA started a five-game week by recording a 15-3 NAC Central victory at Gouverneur.

“We have been working to get better everyday and we are getting better. Our pitchers threw well, Seth Pinkerton played an outstanding game at shortstop, DaKota Brady had a very strong game at firstbase and catcher Jon Tayler picked off a runner at third with the bases loaded,” said OFA Coach Tom Pinkerton after his team climbed to 6-2 in the NAC Central heading into a key home game with Malone on Wednesday.

Rogers also lined two singles and a double to lead a winning offense which also included a single and a double by Pinkerton and two singles by Carroll, Jordan Miller and Tayler and solo hits from Eric Trembly, Zach Barr and Quintilliani.

Dylan Gibson doubled for Gouverneur and Dan Mullin and Braden Fenlong singled.


Andrew Roddy (5 goals, 2 assists) and Taylor Richardson (3 goals) emerged as the primary finishers and Austin Morley-Sloan, Andrew Putman and Nate Peo did the set up work with faceoffs and groundballs as the OFA Boys Lacrosse team (5-6) downed Potsdam 12-8 under the lights of the Alton W. Elliott Athletic Complex.

The OFA girls (3-6) started a home Northern Conference sweep by outscoring Salmon River 15-11.

“Austin Morley-Sloan is the best faceoff guy I have ever coached here and Andrew Putman and Nate Peo won a lot of groundballs on the wing,” said OFA Coach Matt Morley. “That is where it all starts. And we are cutting down ourt mistakes.

Other scoring efforts in support of goaltender Quinton Denner were: Dave Prudhomme (1-2), Peo (1-1) and Dallas Ashley (1-0). Josh Sanchez delivered three goals and two assists and Max Worden passed out three assists to lead the Potsdam scoring which also included: Sam Woods (1-2), Bill Bergon (2-0), and Keegan O’Gorman (2-0).

Danielle Guimond delivered a career-high five goals with one assists off set plays as the OFA Girls used a disciplined deep attack to outscore some long runs by the Shamrocks.

“Salmon River has some girls with great wheels and I think both teams have improved a great deal over the course of the season,” said OFA Coach Lauren Morley.

“Danielle Guimond was our player of the game and Hunter Shaver and MacKenzie Bresett did a great job leading our transition in the midfield.”

Shaver (3 goals, 2 assists) and Bresett (2 goals, 2 assists) also combined to score five goals for the Devils who also received two goals and one assist from Lexi Kennedy, single goals from Kelsi Donaldson, Ann Couperus, Sky Hoover and Courtney Sherwin and one assist from Brooke Badlam.

Jaiden Mitchell tallied four goals for SR and Morgan Thompson and Kyra Thomas-Douglass each netted two.

OFA’s Marissa Foster and Salmon River’s Marcella Thomas each stopped eight saves in goal.


Receiving a major offense spark from Jillian Lincoln, the OFA Softball team claimed a 8-5 NAC Central win over Gouverneur in their first appearance at the Montroy Sports Complex, home of Kiwanis Youth Sports activities, which will be the Devils home diamond for the rest of the season.

Lincoln connected for four hits including a RBI double in four-run sixth inning. Jenny Dalton overcame Gouverneur’s three run first inning and finished with a six hitter with eight strikeouts and just three walks to best Gouverneur’s Mackenzie Rowe who struck out 14 batters.

“We struck out too many times today and we have to be more aggressive at the plate,” said OFA Coach Mark Henry.

Mackenzie Rowe, Lexi Rowe, and Danielle Bullock all lined singles with two outs in the three-run first inning.

Alisha Way ripped a double in the second inning and Makenzie Rowe connected for singles in the third and fifth inning (two RBI) for the rest of the Wildcats.

Kayli Downie reached on a walk and scored in the second inning on a RBI double from Alicia Sharpe. OFA scored three times in the third for a 4-3 lead as Lincoln singled, Kristen Snyder RBI singled, and Madi Bresett singled.

In the sixth inning, Mollee Ahrens reached on a walk, Sharpe singled, Riley Luckie produced a two-run single, and Lincoln connected for her third hit. Bresett also had an RBI in the inning.


The OFA Boys and Girls Track-Field teams used sweeping finishes to record a sweep at Potsdam. The OFA Girls tallied a 170-128 victory and the boys prevailed 143-67.

The Devil teams will make their home debut on Wednesday and host the 91st VanDusen Invitational on Saturday.

In the girls meet Chelsea Montroy won the shot put and then led Alexis Montroy and Shawna Rickett to a 1-2-3 finish in the discus throw.

The Devils also gained a 1-2-3 in the long jump with Charlotte Miller, Kayla Tolman and Breanna Hacia and a 1-2 from Danielle Steenkamer and Eliza Jane Hamilton in the 1500. Other individual wins came from: Sara Mitchell in the 3000 and Ellen Miller in the 400 hurdles.

Relay victories came from the 4x100 combination of Alexis Foster, Breanna Hacia, Chelsea Montroy and Kiara Lasiege and the 4x800 foursome of Shelby Mack, Kurstyn Macaulay, Sarah Mitchell and Danielle Steenkamer.

Maddie Drecshel led the 200 and 400 for Potsdam.

The OFA Boys’ cause took flight. literally as Joe Grizzuto, Taylor Bouchard and Anthony Grizzuto sweep the high jump; Bouchard, Alex Sias and Kevin Joanette controlled the long jump and Bouchard and Jake Sias went 1-2 in the triple jump. In the hurdles events Alex Sias, Bailey Phelps and Ryan Bouchard went 1-2-3 in the 110 race and Bouchard and Anthony Grizzuto posted a 1-2 over 400 meters.

In the distance arena Joe Grizzuto and Nick Vielhauer ran 1-2 in the 1600 and Donnie Smith led the 400 dash after Potsdam’s O’den Robertson led the 100 and 200 dashes.

Alex Cole and Ed Newcomb posted a 1-2 in the discus and Devin Compo took first in the shot put.

OFA also won the 1600 relay with Taylor Bouchard, Joe Grizzuto, Donnie Smith and Jake Sias and the 3200 relay with Pat LaComb, Nick Vielhauer, Bailey Phelps and Garret Dennis.
