There will be a chicken barbecue on June 1 at The Place, 1612 Ford St, Ogdensburg, to benefit Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) from noon until 7 p.m. or sold out. The dinner will include a half of a chicken, macaroni salad, baked beans, and a roll. The cost is $8 per person. Raffles and auctions will also be available.

To aid the fund-raising Detroit Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard has signed a frame picture of him coming on the ice after being announced as a member of the Olympic Team in the 2014 NHL Outdoor Classic at the Big House of University of Michigan Stadium.

The picture will be raffled off in a silent auction. More than three million Americans have juvenile diabetes, or Type 1 diabetes. JDRF is committed to finding a cure and, along the way, finding new and better treatments to improve the lives of the people afflicted with this disease.

This will be the fifth annual chicken barbecue organized by Brinley Frederick and her family after Brinley was disagnosed with juvenile diabetes. The effort has raised $35,000 in our first four years of fundraising.

This year’s barbecue sponsors: The Place, NYSCOPBA, Algonquin Power, St. Lawrence Federal Credit Union, Pepsi-Cola Ogdensburg Bottlers, Jreck Subs, Gray’s Gun Shop and Fobare’s Fruits.
