I am writing to correct a recent regional news report and assure residents of the Gouverneur area that Gouverneur Hospital’s laboratory is open and ready to meet all their needs.

Dr. Steve Landas, medical director of Laboratory Services at SUNY Medical University and an expert in delivering quality laboratory care, has graciously agreed to serve as the medical director of the Gouverneur Hospital laboratory. Dr. Landas has worked tirelessly with our laboratory staff to thoroughly overhaul our procedures and practices and to perform at a standard one would expect of a laboratory in a much larger medical center.

Gouverneur Hospital’s imaging, emergency care, EKG, respiratory therapy, physical therapy and surgical services are also open and functioning at a very high level of quality and efficiency.

When the new Gouverneur Hospital opened at the start of this year, we did so with a promise to deliver core health care services to people across our region with quality practitioners, technologies and service. Our goal is to provide quality care close to home, for the long term, and to add important new services to meet the needs of families, friends and neighbors.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our community for the confidence and pride they have shown in our hospital. Please know that we are here for you and your loved ones when you need us.
