CARTHAGE The Wilna Town Council decided during its May meeting to apply for an energy survey program.
The New York State Energy Research and Development Authority FlexTech program provides a cost-shared analysis of energy efficiency technical evaluations, process improvement analysis, energy master plans and more, according to NYSERDAs website.
The councils vote followed a presentation by Kathleen M. Amyot, circuit rider for the Tug Hill Commission. Mrs. Amyot said that to be eligible, a facility must pay into the Public Service Commissions System Benefits charge as an electric or natural gas customer. More than $50 million will be distributed through Dec. 31, 2015, or until funds are exhausted. The council applied for the program hoping to receive funds to upgrade the town offices rooftop heating and cooling systems, the heating system at the town barn and the Natural Bridge community buildings outdoor lighting.
During public comment, Ann M. Beutel, owner of Superior Computer Services, expressed concern over a lost service contract for the towns computer system to Advance Business. In a letter to the board she said that her businesss block service time rate is $75 while Advances is $79, and that other price differences between the companies were minimal. The council has an outstanding block of time with Superior valued at $450.
Town assessor Robert B. Ball reported that the tentative assessment roll was filed with the town clerks office and published. A grievance day has been set for from 4 to 8 p.m. May 27 in the town board room, 414 State St. Mr. Ball said so far two property owners have filed for a grievance day review.
In other business, the council:
n Approved a $400 contribution to Bassett-Baxter American Legion Post 789 and $100 to Dionne-Rumble Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7227 to help with Memorial Day activities.
n Hired Jeffs Landscaping to care for the towns lawn and shrubs at a cost of $1,382, including spring cleanup and winter preparation.
n Was informed that locks were installed as a security measure on four interior doors in the town office. Danny OBrien did the work for $413.
n Approved the use of Shredcon to destroy files older than six years from the supervisors clerks office at a cost of $60 per 300 pounds.
