Gouverneur – Sylvia L. Henry, 85, formerly of Gouverneur, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Canton – Potsdam Hospital.
Calling hours are Thursday, May 22nd from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with a funeral service to follow at 3:30 pm at the Trinity Episcopal Church, Gouverneur with Rev. Gregory Bailey officiating and burial in East Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
Sylvia was born October 1, 1928 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of Carl and Mary Franklin Ledgard.
She graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and attended Syracuse University.
Sylvia married John C. Henry on November 15, 1946 at St. Johns Episcopal Church in Ogdensburg with Canon George A. Palmer officiating.
Mr. Henry, director of elementary education for Gouverneur Central School, passed away February 1, 1976.
Sylvia was a homemaker and enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family at their cottage on Chippewa Bay. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, the Shakespeare Club, and a life member of the E.J. Noble Hospital Auxiliary. Sylvia lived many years in Gouverneur until moving to Maplewood Campus in Canton a couple of years ago.
Sylvia is survived by her daughter Susan Henry and Richard Hamm of Middleburgh, 3 sons John and Linda Henry of Norwood, Peter and Julie Henry of Gouverneur, Paul Henry of Ithaca, 7 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother John Ledgard of San Raphael, CA and a sister Carolyn Hallman of Evanston, IL, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and her husband John.
