CHAUMONT — The academic leaders for the class of 2014 at Lyme Central School are Jared Donaldson, valedictorian, and Yanna Ososkalo, salutatorian.

Mr. Donaldson, son of Geoffrey and Barbara Donaldson, Chaumont, has an academic average of 98.1 and will receive a Regents diploma with advanced designation with honors and distinction in science. In his junior year, he was inducted into the National Honor Society, where he serves as president.

He received the Clarkson University Leadership Award, Elmira College Key Award, University of Rochester Bausch & Lomb Honorary Science Award and was featured on WWNY-TV News as an “Academic All Star” this year.

During his junior and senior years, Mr. Donaldson completed several college-level courses, both online and through Jefferson Community College’s EDGE Program. He is a member of the varsity soccer, golf and basketball teams, and served as boys soccer team captain in his senior year. Mr. Donaldson has been class president and class treasurer and participated in Odyssey of the Mind, Whiz Quiz and Drama Club.

He works part-time at the Blue Heron Restaurant, where he assists with dish washing and food preparation. Mr. Donaldson will major in engineering at Clarkson University, Potsdam.

Miss Ososkalo, daughter of Daniel and Elena Ososkalo, Chaumont, has an academic average of 93.9 and will graduate with a Regents diploma with advanced designation.

She has completed college-level courses, both online and through JCC’s EDGE Program and over the summer and attended the Summer College program at Syracuse University.

Miss Ososkalo was a member of the varsity soccer team, receiving the Frontier League All-Star Award and most valuable offensive player recognition, and a member of the varsity basketball team, receiving the Frontier League All-Star Award, All-North recognition and Best Offensive Player Award.

She was featured on WWNY-TV News as an “Athlete of the Week” for her accomplishments on the basketball court.

She also participated in Odyssey of the Mind, Senior Chorus, Lyme Varsity Club, Prom Committee and marching band and was class president. Miss Ososkalo was a member of National Honor Society and received the Student Sage Scholarship, Elmira College Key Award and St. Lawrence University Augsbury Award.

She works as a hostess at Valley Peetza and in maintenance at Bay Breeze Golf Course. She will major in mathematics at Wells College, Aurora.
